![]() Icecream is a popular choice for beginners due to its simplistic and accessible user interface.Īlongside the catchy name, what else does Icecream have going for it? This easy-to-use screen recorder is popular among influences and live streamers and is especially well suited to filming gaming tutorial videos. Let’s take a look at six screen capture and screen recorder tools competing with Snagit. However, several powerful Snagit alternatives offer everything you could need without that annual sting on your wallet. If making GIFs is your thing, go ahead and list GIF-making as a priority. Do you need picture-in-picture? Add it to the list. When you choose a screen capture tool, you’ll want to make doubly sure that it will do just about everything you want it to. Considering the yearly cost of Snagit, there is little wonder that so many potential users are looking elsewhere for a free screen-capturing, Snagit alternative. One of the most popular market audiences for a screen capture tool is young people, including YouTubers and film students. The price does include 24-hour support via telephone, web chat, and email. To try your hand at Snagit you’ll need to fork out $62.99 per user, per year. Snagit is not a free screen capture tool. Plus, you can access your footage via the cloud. Snagit includes several editing tools, giving the user complete control over the screen capture footage. This market-leading screen recorder might seem the obvious choice for budding influencers, animators, and anyone who enjoys creating GIFs. That’s how YouTubers make those super-dramatic, reaction videos. Can we just take a moment to appreciate the game-changing feature Snagit added just last year, in 2022? Picture-in-picture mode lets users record screen video while filming their faces via a webcam at the same time. There’s picture-in-picture mode, which is its standout feature. This means you can choose how much of the screen you want to feature in your video recording There’s a choice of full-screen capture or custom selection screen recorder. It lets you export screen capture and video recording files to cloud storage. It includes mobile app Wi-Fi synchronization.Snagit is Windows and Mac OS compatible. ![]() Use “save-as”, get real.If Snagit is so epic, why would anybody even consider using a Snagit alternative? Well, Snagit is pretty cool and there are plenty of reasons to stick with this headlining software tool. If I and other users get testy, it’s not because there is a problem, it because Techsmith seem to be unresponsive to user needs and requests. Most applications allow the user to specify where data is stored, there’s a reason for that. Techsmith should consider making this very minor change. Not just take a “this is the way it is” approach. Manny, what you can do is understand why this is an issue and provide some positive feedback. I do not want the file writes, or the storage capacity taken up on my SSD card, it’s for applications, not data.Īll Techsmith has to do, is allow users to specify where files are stored. However that does not solve the problem as the application (if I want to be able to quickly upload without having to “Save-As” AND Upload) will still keep writing the files to my SSD card. There where over 1,000 files using over 3GB of storage on my SSD card – that was not good. ![]() I just discovered that the applications where keeping a copy of every video and screenshot I uploaded. If you force me to "save-as" every video you are making the SW a pain to use. One of the key benefits of snagit and Jing is that they are quick ways of creating, uploading and publishing videos. Please allow me to specify where the files are saved though. If the applications need to save a copy, I can live with that. To say the solution is to "save as" is missing the point, I want to upload it, I do not want to save it at all! Techsmith are forcing me to save it in order to avoid the file being saved to my C drive. The default for an upload in snagit is to save a copy on my C drive (my SSD drive) I do not want this to happen! And I am not the only one. I do not want to save it to my system at all. I see I am not the only one who figured this out - although techsmith clearly have not.įor most video's created by snagit, Jing and sometimes Camtasia, I upload them straight to Screencast. This setup provides lighting performance and great capacity. Data goes to E drive (a regular hard disk). My C drive is an SSD, apps go there, storage is limited and read writes are limited but it is very very fast. I have the same problem - seems to me techsmith are missing the plot AND unresponsive to user needs.
